Eco Design Competition

The  Eco Design Initiative 2010 theme is Shaping the Future.

The 2010 Competition closed for entries on 30 July 2010. This year’s campaign, involving South African design students and entrepreneurs, received close to 150 entries from textile & fashion, surface & industrial and graphic designers.

20 Finalists have been short-listed for the final stages of the Eco Design Competition and participation in the Fresh Talent Workshop.

The Eco Design Initiative calls for clean smart designs (no kak!)  that fit into one of these categories:

Bambino Bio

Clothing / Toys & Accessories / Linen & Bath time / Cool school & Educational Products

Green Home & Hospitality

Smart Furniture / Eco Dining & Kitchen  / Lounging & Comfort / Garden & Outdoors / Uniforms & Workwear

Durable Design for Everyday

Packaging / Office & Stationery / Travel / Lighting / Storage / Fashion, Clothing & Accessories

Careful consideration must be given to the materials used in the production, including their origin and recyclability. Think about the design’s lifecycle and footprint. Concepts must promote and encourage environmental responsibility and must be user-friendly – applicable to everyday.

Good design tells a story. This Eco Design Initiative is an opportunity to tell a new design story: one with happy endings for our environment and our communities.
